About Us


We choose a slower way of making.

Who We Are

Cult & Clay was born from a refusal. A refusal to make clothing quickly, poorly, or without meaning. Every garment begins with a conversation between a fiber and a hand, between an artisan and an idea.

We source from Indian earth: sun-dried khadi spun on handlooms in Bengal, south cotton woven in the temples of Tamil Nadu, organic linen from the floodplains of Bihar. Nothing is manufactured. Everything is made.

We produce in small batches. We do not overstock. When a piece sells out, it does not return. Because the world does not need more clothing. It needs better clothing made honestly, worn forever.

A Philosophy of Cloth

Khadi

Slowly made. Worn with thought. Born of cotton, made by human hands. Khadi is one of the few fabrics in the world that is still hand spun and hand woven from start to finish. Every meter has the rhythm of charkha, patience of spinner and skill of weaver. It’s been a symbol of self-sufficiency and still a reminder that some things are worth the wait.

South Cotton

The luxury of light The cotton-growing regions of South India have been creating some of the most breathable and durable textiles on the planet for hundreds of years. South Cotton is woven for tropical climates and day-to-day living. It carries a natural softness, feeling effortless against the skin. It simply asks to be worn, washed, and lived in.

Linen

A fabric that wears well with age. Linen is one of the oldest textiles man makes, and it is made from the flax plant. Its beauty is not in perfection but in change. It gets softer with every wash, more relaxed with every wear and takes on a character of its own. Like all things of substance, linen becomes more itself with age.

Jute Cotton

Strong, but not too much. Jute has been cultivated for centuries on the riverbanks of the Indian subcontinent. It is blended with cotton to create a fabric that is tough and tactile, earthy and elegant. It feels like earth, it lasts like traditional craft and it shows that strength doesn’t have to come at the expense of simplicity.
